CAMP - Soft Sculptures (8-10 yrs old)

About the course

This week, campers explore soft sculpture. They will model fabric and pliable materials through a variety of techniques—such as sewing, weaving, and draping—to craft uncanny, malleable, and movable abstract and figurative forms.

Schedule

8:15 to 9:00 am: Pre-camp activities / Drop-off (included in the registration price)

9:00 to 9:30 am: Icebreaker and movement time

9:30 am to 12:00 pm: Workshop with an art teacher
The morning session offers a creative workshop atmosphere in which to explore a variety of art forms that change each week. Some of the techniques and approaches we will be exploring this summer are collage, printmaking, bookmaking, sculpture, and assemblage. Experimentation, creativity, and self-expression are encouraged, as well as skill development and an understanding of basic artistic concepts.

12:00 to 12:30 pm: Lunch

12:30 to 2:00 pm: The first part of the afternoon includes physical activities, with trips to Somerville or Prince Albert Parks for organized and informal play. Once a week the participants visit the Westmount pool!

2:00 to 4:00 pm: Workshop and activities with specialized art counsellor
The session will include collaborative projects, art games, discovery learning and collaborative activities. The emphasis will be on group projects and activities that encourage creativity and cooperation.

4:00 to 5:30 pm: Pick-up (included in the registration price)
Children can be picked up at any time between 4:00 and 5:30 pm. Activities during this time will include: creating bracelets, drawing, beading, and other quiet games.
