Twist, Bind, Braid: Rope as Artform

This is a two-day workshop that will explore handmade and machine-made cordage and rope making techniques. The first day will teach the basics of both techniques, experimenting with various materials such as cut up clothes, twine, shoelaces, plant matter, and whatever else inspires. We will end the first day discussing options and ideas for a personal project for day two. Day two will invite students to create a final wearable, functional, artistic or performative art piece. Everyone will be encouraged to take time in between both classes to further develop their ideas and buy the necessary components to complete their final project. Certain materials and tools will be provided. No prerequisite.
