Curated by Meredith Carruthers and Susannah Wesley (Leisure), Ceramics Friends highlights community building, friendship and creative interrelation through clay. This fifth edition of the Virginia McClure Ceramic Biennale presented the works of five artist collaborations who work in friendship, engaging with clay as a shared conceptual material. Expanding the notion of ceramics beyond produced objects, the curators focused on the communal aspects of ceramics work within a studio setting, as well as the care, resilience, and collaboration this generates. Co-published with Artexte, the catalogue features conversations and works by Emii Alrai and Eve Tagny, Marie-Michelle Deschamps and Celia Perrin Sidarous, Heather Goodchild and Margaux Smith, August Klintberg and Benny Nemer with Rosalie Namer, and Leisure (Meredith Carruthers and Susannah Wesley), as well as with Troy McClure. Through a process of collaborative reflection, this catalogue documents the methodology of these artists and celebrates the excellence and innovation of each in the field in contemporary ceramic art.
