Join us for the opening of this dual exhibiton by Silas Wamsley and Vanessa Yanow
Working in opposite scales—Silas creates large-format oil paintings, while Vanessa's textile and mixed-media objects can be held in the hands—the artists address intimate subjects, from gender, the body and uncertainty, to chronic illness, caregiving and bereavement. Combining Renaissance and surreal aesthetics, Silas brings together elements of the human body, plants, animals and sacred objects and creatures. Vanessa’s work, focused on her daily life as a caregiver, embodies the principle that the private is political: care as a creative relationship rooted in the material.
