Graduating in textile construction at the Center for Contemporary Textiles in Montreal in 2014, Tamara Rubilar discovered art embroidery there. She trained mainly in Europe, notably at the prestigious Lesage school in Paris, at the Royal School of Needlework in London, as well as in Spain during internships in workshops specializing in gold embroidery in Madrid and Seville.
Her work includes creating fine art embroidery pieces and textile embellishments for fashion, theater, film, and visual art. Since 2015, she has worked on several projects with Cirque du Soleil, Disney and the Grands Ballets Canadiens. During a two-year stay in Spain, she collaborated with Madrid designers. Back in Montreal, she founded her workshop, Studio textile Montréal in 2019, and continued collaborations with Montreal designers including Antonio Ortega, Créations Gama and Mavra couture. She divides her time between teaching, collaborations and the creation of personal works.
As one of the rare specialists in art embroidery, she teaches as a lecturer at the Center for Contemporary Textiles in Montreal, and also offers workshops at her studio, in museums and embroidery guilds across the province. She is a member of the Arts Crafts Council.
