Join us for a zine launch and a conversation part of the closing of the exhibition Buddies at the McClure gallery on October 14 from 5 to 8pm.

Alex Tigchelaar will be presenting “Cabaret Venus Sweets: a story about 972 Ste. Catherine W”, a zine commissioned for this exhibition around the past histories of several strip-clubs and nightlife venues that existed in a specific Montreal address and will be in discussion with the exhibiting artist Théo Bignon about their different experience of nightlife and how their creative processes aims to remember and recontextualize these fragments of personal and collective histories.

Programme

  • 5pm: closing reception of the exhibition Buddies in the presence of the artist
  • 6pm: presentation and discussion of Alex Tigchelaar's ‘zine project
  • 7pm: refreshments and 90s stripper-core playlist (dancing encouraged 🙂)

Alex Tigchelaar is a PhD candidate at Concordia in the Humanities. She is currently producing a SSHRC funded podcast called Nous sommes toujours là, which asks Montreal’s sex workers from the 1960s to early 2000s to share their knowledge of our city’s architecture and built environment generally. www.montrealpalimpsex.com
