Join us for this art hive with Vanessa Yanow!
In this art hive, the artist will invite participants to bring a collared or dress shirt they are willing to alter. The group will begin by sharing the stories or meanings behind each shirt, then cut the sleeves and transform them into fabric ribbons. On these ribbons, participants will write what sacrifice means to them (something given up, carried, or chosen) using as few or as many words as they wish.
The ribbons will then be exchanged among participants, and the artist will introduce simple rope-making techniques to braid them into small ropes. These can be taken home or joined together into one long communal rope left in the gallery, forming a collective trace of sacrifice, exchange, and care.
