Jessica Brouder is an Irish Canadian visual artist and art educator living and working in
Tiohtià:ke/Montreal. She holds an MFA in Medium and Material Based Art (Textiles)
from the National Academy of the Arts in Oslo (Norway), an MA in Fine Art from Central
Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London (England), and a BFA in Fine Art
(Painting) from Limerick School of Art and Design (Ireland).
Informed by an appreciation for folk art and craft, Brouder’s practice begins with locally
collected environmental and societal debris as the primary conceptual and material
source. Her process often involves the repetition of rupture or breakage followed by
repair. She explores the potential of everyday ephemera, through textiles, as a vehicle
for investigating ideas of attention, discard studies and futuring.
